Ilahi

Theologically, Ilahi is distinct from Allahumma (an invocation for needs) or Ya Allah (O God, a call from a distance). Ilahi assumes closeness. It is the word you use when you believe God is not on a throne, but nearer to you than your jugular vein—listening, aware, and deeply personal.

In the Mevlevi order (Whirling Dervishes), the practitioner spins with one hand toward the sky (receiving divine grace) and one toward the earth (distributing it). While spinning, the silent or vocal Zikr (remembrance) often circles around the name "Allah" and the address "Ilahi." It is a direct line dialed to the Throne of Heaven.
