Prasanth Varma said in a 2019 interview:
Awe is rated for mature audiences. It deals with drug abuse, domestic violence, and mental illness. The film also contains disturbing imagery and psychological horror elements. Parental guidance is strongly advised. The Tamil dubbed version does not censor or alter these themes, staying true to the original vision.
