Currently, the release is a limited physical edition (no 4K digital-only option yet, frustratingly). And as with any 2000s TV show in 4K, occasional grain and soft focus shots from the original lenses are present—but purists will see that as a feature, not a bug.

Season 1 was shot with a heavy contrast ratio. The orange hue of the prison jumpsuits against the cold, steel grey of the cells was intentional. With HDR10+ or Dolby Vision, the highlights (a single bulb in the infirmary, the flash of a guard’s flashlight) would be blindingly bright, while the shadows in the PI (Plant Identification) room would remain deep and inky black without appearing muddy. prison break 4k new
